I was just browsing through the "top" blogs on here, and it came to my attention that out of 100 posts, there was not a single one I felt compelled to read. This is not a criticism of the quality of writing here. I understand that this place is mostly for teens and college students. But still...it is about the content.
Where are the sports?
Where are any discussions about movies?
Where are the reflections on politics and what's happening in the real world?
All of this is relegated to the back end of nowhere in favor of posts about other xangans or metablogs about xanga, and quite frankly, I don't care.

*sniff* I thought mine was interesting. But I'm narcissistic.
Honestly, I rarely even read Top Blogs, anymore. It bores me. That wasn't always the case. I'm not sure what happened, honestly.
I haven't felt inclined to answer a featured question or read a featured post for a long time, so you are not alone. I'm here because I have friends that I would miss terribly if I left.
@Blue__Summer - i think you write well. that is enough of a draw for me, and i stop by on occasion.
for me, though, it's not even top blogs. i don't see anyone in any circles on here writing about the topics that really draw me in. and if the topics are covered, like let's say..video games...they're covered very poorly.
@woodrowwilson - Oh come on! The irony of a fat ugly girl talking about the attractiveness of female gamers, now that was hideously ironic.
@Drakonskyr - is that what they're going for over there now? sheesh...let me know when they stop talking about gamer culture and start talking about, you know...games.
@woodrowwilson - You know, right back at ya (compliment-wise). And you are right about the topics. I have a handful of blogs that I read habitually. I used to have a lot more. Mostly, I get bored. Or annoyed. (Grammar's lacking, or glaringly absent. Or it's the same topic, over and over again.)
What topics do you like? I can try and suggest some blogs, if you like.
@woodrowwilson - Just look at the front page of Xanga. It's right there. I cracked my shit UP on that.
You write one, I will rec the heck out of it!
And comment it, but I refuse to say I will comment the heck out of it. Don't wanna be accused of stalking or trolling. haha
@Drakonskyr - well, she got the standard ask two questions at the end so people can respond part right.
@Krissy_Cole - haha..i just wrote two posts about ron artest and transformers 2. what's funny is that hardly anyone on xanga notices my sports posts, but i have a post about rajon rondo from last year that still gets web hits. i think it's pushing a thousand views now.
as for stalking/trolling, you can do that anytime. i don't mind at all.
@Blue__Summer - like i said in my rant, i don't think they exist on xanga. i mostly read sportswriters blogs, video game blogs and the like.
@woodrowwilson - Well, thanks! I am heading to the Artest post right now. I am also going to check out the Transformers 2 blog, though I can't promise to know much. I haven't seen it yet. The hubby went without me.
@Krissy_Cole - that's what my post was about. i refuse to see it.
@woodrowwilson - Well, damn. That tears it. I'll just have to blog about video games. *grin*
@Krissy_Cole - You are not capable of troll like behavior. Wit and humor? Yes. Troll-like antics? No.
@woodrowwilson - Ah. I am still making my way to that blog. lol
@Blue__Summer - Well, thanks!
I think of xanga as a blogging site that is used primarily for peoples personal writing... if I want to read a blog about sports, I'll go to espn.com or someplace where people who know about sports blog about sports.
But then again, "Belly Button Piercing: Hot or not?" or whatever the hell that one post was about sort of kills the spirit of something I like to call "good writing."
@Drakonskyr - That was both cruel and...awesome.
@Belegost_the_Naugrim - That's the Drakonskyr promise!
@Belegost_the_Naugrim - if xanga were smart, they would try to shake off the perception that this is a site for blogging as social networking. that model is outdated and traffic here is steadily dwindling.
it's very secluded from the rest of the internet and they keep doing things that don't make any sense. they even had a featured post a few weeks ago that criticized twitter and facebook. what's the point of that? don't they realize that people can use those formats to drive traffic here?
@woodrowwilson - I agree with that reality.... but in principle, I like it how it is. The blogs I read aren't about sports or games, because I can find those anywhere. I like the ones written by a few really talented writers. Like MoonCatBlue, or Speraquodeveror (or however it's spelled) and Bricker59. Their blogs are personal and that's what i like.
And it creeps me out how Facebook keeps on trying to connect to xanga. I don't want them involved at all. Facebook already has ads specifically designed for my "interests..." it's creepy.
@Belegost_the_Naugrim - i don't link my facebook to my xanga. i think it's intrusive that they put that option on by default. i use my blogger to feed into my facebook notes, and i have complete control over that. much better.
@woodrowwilson - If I want to "write" on facebook, I'll just post a stinkin' note. Every site has it's niche, when it starts out, and eventually grows into some hideous version of an oversized, do-it-all monstrosity.
What do people really want out of facebook? Simply a way to connect to their friends and family. and it should stay that way. Oh, and I don't need to let everybody know that I am a "fan" of inane things like "the outdoors" and "pizza" and "comfy sheets."
@Belegost_the_Naugrim - what, you're not a fan of blowing up the moon?
I wrote about enjoying the nice weather and how much I miss doing so. Eh, I've returned to writing for myself instead of others now.Â
